When we first saw our new house, we didn’t even really look in the bathroom more than a passing glance. The house was occupied and we were seeing it in the midst of a pandemic. When we were inside the house I don’t think it had really sunk in that we wanted to buy it so we were just trying to get in and out quickly. When we got the keys and saw the bathroom, we were pretty disappointed. On top of the bathroom being extremely tiny (which is just something we will deal with as a side effect of living in the city), the fixtures and decoration were really outdated.

We picked out new tile, tub, sink cabinet and fixtures from Home Depot’s website, because we didn’t really know what else to do. We got white subway tile for the walls, in 3″ x 12″ size ratio, Colin’s choice. For the floor, we chose a grey hexagon marble to keep the bathroom of this nearly 100 year old house in a more traditional style. We picked an Ikea vanity in dark brown, and a simple shower and tub faucet.

At this point, it looked like the materials MIGHT arrive on time so we just ordered them. Little did we know, Home Depot is slammed right now. Probably due to people being home at all the time and having the time to do some DIY projects. The wall tile in particular did not look like it would arrive any time soon.

The rush was because we only have one bathroom at our new house and remodeling needed to be finished by June 29 when we move in, or MAYBE June 30 at the latest because we could still use our apartment bathroom.

We decided on June 14 to go to Floor and Decor in Burlingame, which ended up being so much more fun than shopping online. We keep saying that if it weren’t coronavirus, this would all be a lot more fun. Shopping for materials is really interesting, but it’s a lot less fun when you shop online because you are just guessing how things look. A photo really doesn’t compare to seeing something in real life.

At Floor and Decor, we picked nearly identical subway tile but changed our flooring to something lighter. Or maybe nearly the same, we’ve never seen the other one!

Still waiting on the Ikea vanity and choosing a light. We’ve been checking clickcollect.info to get an Ikea “Click and Collect” spot but it’s not looking promising. Such a bummer!
